The Secrets of Parthenon

Parthenon, ancient Greek temple dedicated to Goddess Athens, stands still and enigmatic for more than 2.500 years at the same place, on the Athenian Acropolis. Is it just another ruin? Is it another ancient temple made of stone? Or does it express much more than this?
On the Rock of the Acropolis of Athens.
Three to four hours.
After a short introduction to the dense history of the monument, the social and political status that created it, the symbols that carried out since antiquity, this activity goes on to explain the reasons of its attraction to other civilizations, whether they respected or damaged it. Finally this activity ends to reveal the secrets of the monument and to propose their utilization creatively.
What do your arms, feet, face, flowers, mathematics, favorite logos, successful cars, Leonardo Da Vinci and Parthenon have in common? Can we consider an insect beautiful? Why do we fail to draw something catchy? Is marketing based on decimal numbers? Who taught all these for the first time?
Despite all damages that Acropolis of Athens and Parthenon have suffered, they still attract tourists from all modern world, even the youngest. Why haven’t these damages caused ignorance of the monuments?
Because Parthenon’s secrets are well hides and the modern man discovers them gradually.
And because Parthenon merges the ideal of a whole era: the synthesis of different ideologies and aesthetic rules, the ionic and the doric, the facetious and the firm.
And because it has carried the defense of what we call European culture against all the threats and it finally survived despite all the phases of decay they appeared.
Parthenon kept its architectural and constructional secrets well reserved for two millennia. We managed to reveal some of them during our last effort to reconstruct it. Most probably it’s the first time that Parthenon felt confident to talk to us again about the relationship between maths, nature, human body and art. It is due to this revelation that human beings discovered an alternative way to succeed in art, marketing, even politics. And it is thanks to a golden number.
This activity aims to discover these secrets that distinguished Parthenon as a unique piece of art. It also encourages participants to create their own pieces of art. They might seem to share nothing in common with Parthenon but they will be based on its artistic and mathematical wisdom.
